How To Play Sketch & Story®

1. The game starts with an announcer taking a scenario card and rolling the dice. The number that appears will correspond with a situation the participants must draw to their own interpretation. For instance, the scenario may say “THINGS THAT ARE SCARY.”

2. Because the scenario is meant to be open-ended, different players may come up with different drawings in a minute’s time. For this example, different players have drawn on their tiles “mountain climbing,” “sharks,” “zombies,” and “roller coasters,” and the tiles are then laid out on a table in that order for the first player.

3. Players then take turns weaving together a 1-minute story with the sketched tiles. They can either say their story, or sing it to a tune given by the song cards provided.

The first player might develop a story about how he had been MOUNTAIN CLIMBING in Tibet, and oxygen deprivation sickness forced him to fly home early from the climb. During the flight his airplane developed engine failure and they had to crash land in the ocean where he had to cling to a wing section for days as SHARKS circled about him.  Soon he became delirious and was hallucinating about ZOMBIES marching toward him on the water eager to devour him.  He awakened from what had actually only been a terrible nightmare probably caused by the horror movie he had watched and the spicy food he had eaten with his girlfriend the night before.  He now has decided that he doesn't plan to do anything more frightening than ride the big ROLLER COASTER at his favorite theme park.

The picture tiles would be rearranged for each of the other players who would take a turn at presenting their own unique tale.

4. If you are playing with scorekeeping, once all the players have finished their stories, they will vote for the best drawing and the best story or song. The scorekeeper would then record the points and the game would start over from step 1.
